Dell, the famous computer manufacturer announced their plans to join the Smartphone race by officially unveiling Dell mini 3. We earlier covered the unofficial appearance of Dell mini 3 in China. The official press release today confirmed the upcoming release of Dell mini 3 to China and Brazil. Dell mini 3 is a Android phone. Specifications of the devices include 3.15 mega pixel cameras, 3.5 inch touch screen, 3G, Wi-Fi GPS etc. They have also mentioned that they have tie-up with few telecom companies in US, Europe and some other Asian countries that would be used to launch Dell mini 3 in those markets.

Dell mini 3 initially targets the customers of two of the world’s largest mobile operators China mobile and Claro of Americas. We are not sure how Dell started naming its Smartphone with 3. It may be because of its 3G capabilities, or just a fancy numbering. Dell mini 3 packs everything found in an entry level Android Smartphone.

Dell mini 3.0 will be launched this November on China mobile and then on Claro by coming December. Dell didn't confirmed the price of device. But we expect the price of Dell mini 3 to be around 450 -500$.

We first told you about the Pure being loaded just hours ago and BGR is now suggesting pricing for it and the Tilt 2. The Tilt 2 will be $300 after rebate ($500 without a new contract) with the Pure going for $200 $150…. after rebate ($350 without a new contract). The pricing of the Tilt 2 is in line with other carriers but I have to admit it makes the Pure a little more attractive. What do you think?

The iPod touch and the big picture

In a New York Times interview of Steve Jobs conducted by Engadget columnist aspirant David Pogue, Apple’s CEO suggested that the company did not include a camera on the iPod touch because the company was now marketing the iPod touch as a game machine and that a camera was not germane to such a device. “We don’t need to add new stuff,” said Jobs.

But why is adding a digital camera any less germane to the portable game device of the iPod touch than it is to adding it to the media player of the iPod nano? Or, if price is an issue, why not exclude it only on the entry-level model? The iPod touch market will soon be large enough to support such diversity. And if the iPod touch is indeed being marketed as a gaming console and a low-cost point of entry to the app store, excluding a camera disrupts the continuity of the touch/iPhone platform, while the iPod imaging message is now more muddled…..

If you’re buying the iPhone 3G, you can capture stills but not video, while the “lower-end” iPod nano offers video capture but not stills, the iPod touch offers neither, and only the iPhone 3GS offers both.

Aiptek’s tiny PenCam HD Trio camcorder

Peoples’ pants must be getting smaller, because so too are pocket camcorders shrinking down. Despite not making any dubious “world’s smallest” claims, Aiptek’s latest is one of the most slender we’ve seen that’s able to shoot high-def video, and quite possibly the first with a 1.1-inch OLED screen on the back for previewing what your footage might look like on a First Class Forever stamp. It’ll shoot video at 720p30, capture 5 megapixel stills, and record them both to 4GB of internal memory — good for about two hours’ worth of footage.

You can upload to YouTube straight from the camera’s (Windows-only) software, or spin it to your TV through the integrated HDMI port. It sounds like quite a nice little package, and while we wouldn’t expect the video quality to knock anyone’s proverbial socks off, given the brand we wouldn’t expect a shockingly high price, either.

Apple: Commodore 64 emulator for iPhone

Apple is opening the door to emulators of all sorts on the iPhone, but the newly (and finally) approved Commodore 64 emulator is still a fairly notable first for the platform — representing not only the first officially-available emulator, but perhaps the first app that actually runs code. In this case, that first bit apparently wasn’t too big a point of contention for Apple, considering that the app had all the necessary licensing rights lined up, but the second issue was, and ran right up against a clause in the iPhone 2.0 SDK that prevented apps from containing their own executable runtimes.

The key to bridging that divide around that was none other than iPhone 3.0, which contains a new feature for in-app purchases that the C64 emulator will take advantage of to let folks purchase additional games, rather than load arbitrary game code downloads. Interestingly, while this newly-approved version of the emulator also no longer exposes a BASIC interpreter, Manomio has added a note to the app that it “should be resolved in a future update,” although it’s not quite clear if that’s just wishful thinking or not…..

In the meantime, you can grab the app right now with five bundled games for $4.99.

Verizon launches the Samsung Rogue

After letting it float around in the rumorsphere for months on end, Verizon finally announced at the end of August that they would be launching the Samsung Rogue on September 8th. September 8th has come and, sure enough, so has the Samsung….

The Rogue isn’t quite a smartphone, but it still packs a good amount of heat for a $99 messaging phone. It’s got a 3.1″ touchscreen, with a 3.0 megapixel camera with flash and video recording. Stereo bluetooth support is there, and it’s all built-up on top of Samsung’s in-house TouchWiz OS. If nothing else, we’ve got a special place in our hearts for that big ol’ full QWERTY keyboard.

T-Mobile BlackBerry 9700 Bold Onyx

We’ve pretty much all seen the fuzzy pictures of the upcoming BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Bold 9700, codenamed Onyx, but nothing beats the sharpness of a rendered press shot. Once the marketing materials start surfacing for a phone, it’s safe to assume the final touches are being made, but T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) is still calling it the Onyx, so we still have some time. This accompanying blurb gives us an idea of what to expect in terms of services:

“The BlackBerry ‘Onyx’ sports a premium experience and design with a high-gloss black finish and leather grain detail on the back. Boasting features such as high-speed 3G Web browsing, Wi-Fi calling, visual voicemail and support for corporate and personal e-mail options, the ‘Onyx’ will satisfy all your on-the-go needs. Also the phone comes preloaded with mobile applications from BlackBerry App World, including Amazon MP3 store for quick and easy music downloads and TeleNav GPS Navigator for turn-by-turn directions.”

Visual voicemail is a definite bonus, and would give T-Mobile quite the leg-up if they can offer it before AT&T (NYSE: T) can get their crap together and fix VVM on the Bold, although AT&T will be getting the 9700, presumably around the same time with the same service. If you’re hankering to replace your BlackBerry 9000, the rumoured timeframe for a launch is early November, just like Rogers.
